♥ Can’t believe I’m a mother of One

If you had told me 15 years ago that I would be married to Melvin and we'd have one kid, I would have been terribly upset because then, I really wanted to marry Richard Gere, Harrison Ford or Andy Lau. Oh well. Melvin ain't too bad I suppose. Ha!

So yup, fast forward 15 years and now we have one kid! One! I am officially a "mother of ONE"! Gosh, it makes me sound so grown-up. And responsible. And... old. But honestly, I really don't feel like I'm already thirties...

But then the stress is there.

When looking after Melody, it gets complicated. Besides worrying about the basic stuffs such as meals/bath/etc, I also worry whether I’m doing enough stimulating her in the IQ department.

Whenever others ask every now and then, whether I'm teaching her anything at home, doing any flash cards, etc, I always feel kinda guilty coz' the answer is no. We have been playing Play-Doh, puzzles, cycling, pretend play like cooking and shopping, and watching a bit of Dibo, Chuggington, Dora Explorer, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on TV. I mean, I don't usually feel bad about what I'm doing with her coz' I think we are doing just fine and there's no hurry to learn things the academic way.

Again the stress is here.

When other kids are recognising big and small A-Z, recognising words, and actually reading quite well. When they can draw things that you can recognise. When they can do 50, 100 piece jigsaw puzzles. And my dear Melody can only recognize some alphabets, can't draw anything that looks like anything, and is still doing 20 piece puzzles. Even though she enjoys them thoroughly.

I'm not worried. Most of the time. But the rest of the world is. And for some stupid reason I am starting to be too.

Is that what the "kiasu" feeling feels like?

BUT.

Do you know that Melody can dance and sing like no other 3+ year old can?

Do you know that she can cook up a storm with plastic vegetables and fruits, take orders and then serve you like a pro?

Do you know that she can climb almost as well as a monkey at the playground?

Do you know that she is the sweetest little girl who strokes my hair when I'm upset and tell me "sayang, mommy!"

I really think she's fine, the way she is now. Even with a lazy mommy who doesn't prepare anything for her to learn or make craft or read to her etc.

I'm going to do my part. I’m going to tell her a bedtime story tonight.

♥ The facts of being married

One of my friend asked me if I have a choice and could turn back time, will I chose to get married..

My answer is ‘Yes, I’ll chose to get married’

There are pebbles along our marriage path, but there’s nothing that we can’t face and solve together. Really.

In fact, Melvin is always the one to give and I’m always the one to take.

Most of the people feel there’s no freedom once you’re married! It’s interesting how some people see marriage as being tied down, or worse, chained to the ground forever and ever. As if it’s ‘the beginning of the end of the world”.

I guess if you weren’t careful about choosing who you’re marrying, you would definitely feel that way.

And I do agree. In marriage, two different individuals are united. I believe that it all depends on how the couple deals with each friction

♥ Terrible Three

My 3-year-old little gal has somewhat become more assertive.

She ignores my requests. Sometimes, even if I repeat my requests nicely or firmly, it doesn’t quite help too.

I guess she has entered her terrible three stage
where she wants to assert her wants, doesn’t like it when someone does or doesn’t do something for her, and demands her opinion to be heard and followed by everyone else.

One thing I know is that such terrible three phase doesn’t last forever.

I’m surviving.

Phew.
